Telling Time

The recent form makes for interesting reading. A second-place finish five races ago was the highlight, and since then the results have drifted — seventh, eleventh, seventh, and fourth in the most recent outing. That latest run, just yesterday, suggests the team are keeping faith and actively searching for the right opportunity. The eleventh-place finish in there is a concern, but horses have bad days, and two placings from eleven races at least confirms this is not a horse that has been completely out of its depth every time.

The trainer is Charlie Longsdon, whose yard at Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire has sent out 33 winners already this season — a healthy, productive operation that clearly knows how to place horses to give them a chance. That context matters. When a yard is firing on all cylinders like that, the horses that haven't won yet tend to be the ones getting the most thought put into where and when they run next. Telling Time is in capable hands, and with that level of stable form behind it, a first win is not out of the question if the right race comes along.
