Tell Me Again

The recent form makes for difficult reading. A fourth place is sandwiched between a string of disappointing finishes — eighth, tenth, and eleventh — and two runs where Tell Me Again failed to complete the course at all. That is a pattern that raises questions, and right now there are more questions than answers. Six races alongside jockey Jack G Gilligan have produced nothing in the win column, though it is worth saying that when a horse has not won at all, it is hard to pin the blame on any one partnership.

What keeps this interesting is the yard behind the horse. Trainer Micky Hammond operates out of Middleham in North Yorkshire, one of British racing's most storied training villages, and his team has sent out 31 winners already this season — a genuinely productive operation. Hammond knows how to place a horse and find the right opportunity, so the fact that Tell Me Again ran just yesterday suggests the team still believes there is a race to be won somewhere. You do not keep a horse active if you have given up on it. Whether Tell Me Again can finally deliver on that faith is the open question — but for now, the search continues.
