The Crisford yard at Newmarket, run by Simon and Ed, has been firing this season with 78 winners already — the sort of numbers that come from a strong operation with good horses coming through. Being trained there puts Tawakal in serious company. With only a week between the last race and this moment, the colt is clearly active and being targeted regularly, which usually means the yard sees something worth backing. The gap since the win at Nottingham seven weeks ago suggests the the yard have been patient, perhaps looking for the right race rather than rushing a young horse back too soon. For a two-year-old with genuine form in the book, that careful approach can pay real dividends later in the season.
