Trained by Charlie Appleby out of Newmarket, Talk Of New York is part of one of British racing's most powerful operations right now. Appleby's yard has sent out 121 winners already this season — that is not a typo. To put it in perspective, most trainers would consider 30 or 40 winners a strong year. When a horse comes out of a stable firing at that rate, it tends to arrive at the track well-prepared, and Talk Of New York's record suggests exactly that.
The career started at Kempton Park back in October 2025, and it began the way every trainer hopes — with a win. Since then the horse has barely put a foot wrong, finishing in the top three in every single race it has run. That includes a third place, which is the only time it has not hit the front, and four podium finishes from four attempts in total. The most recent outing came just yesterday at Sandown Park, and it ended the same way the story usually does — first past the post. Winning at two different tracks shows this is not a horse that relies on familiar surroundings; it turns up and performs.
At only four races in, it is still early days and there is plenty we do not yet know about how Talk Of New York will handle tougher competition as the season progresses. But right now, this is a young horse in the form of its life, trained by a yard that clearly knows what it is doing, and with the kind of recent record — three wins from its last four races — that would make any racing fan sit up and take notice.
