Syzygy

The horse has a clear preference for wet, muddy ground, where she has won two of three races—a 67% win rate on those surfaces that stands out sharply against her overall record. She is also a course specialist at The Curragh, winning two of four races there, which narrows the field further. More encouragingly, Syzygy just won at Gowran Park this week, on 19 September 2026, marking her first victory at that track—a full year after her career debut there on 20 September 2025. That suggests the horse has learned and is now capitalizing on experience.

Her last six runs tell a more complex story. After the recent win, she has had a couple of mid-field finishes (a fourth and a sixth) sandwiched around some stronger showings—a fourth, two placings, and a seventh. She is clearly active and racing regularly, which at least keeps her in work and in contention. McLoughlin's yard has sent out nine winners this season, so the stable is in good form and capable of getting horses over the line. Syzygy may not be a headline act, but for a four-year-old with a winning record on favourable ground at favourable tracks, she represents a horse moving in the right direction.
