Recent form shows the struggle continuing. In her last six races she has finished eighth, eleventh, seventh, third, fifth and sixth, a sequence that contains flashes of hope — that third-place finish suggests she still has something to offer on her day — but mostly underlines how far she has drifted from that one victorious afternoon at Carlisle. She was last out just a day ago, meaning the yard are keeping her active and looking for another opening, even if results suggest the opportunities are not coming her way. Jockey Harry Russell, her most frequent partner, has ridden her nine times and won once, a win rate of 11 per cent that is slightly better than her overall record but still speaks to the difficulty in getting Suzette across the line. Her trainers, Tony Coyle and Kaine Wood at Norton in North Yorkshire, have had reasonable success this season with 12 winners to their name, but Suzette remains one of those horses that has slipped into the margins — competitive enough to stay in training, but not quite good enough to deliver the wins her the yard are hunting for.
