What makes this worth watching, though, is context. Sutton Hoo raced just one day ago, so this is a horse very much in the thick of its campaign, still learning and still being given opportunities by the yard. Trainer Natalia Lupini, based in Banbridge, Co Down, has sent out 17 winners already this season, which tells you this is not a yard that runs horses without purpose. When a stable is winning at that kind of clip, they tend to know something the form book doesn't always show — and they keep running Sutton Hoo, which suggests patience and belief rather than resignation.
At three years old, there is still time. Some horses simply take longer to find their feet, and five races is not a long story. Whether Sutton Hoo turns things around or remains a work in progress, the team clearly hasn't given up — and with a trainer in the form Lupini is in this season, that faith might yet be rewarded.
