The last six races paint a mixed picture. A fifth-place finish most recently was followed by a run of mid-field performances — a fourteenth, then three races where the horse finished ninth and seventh. Form like this is frustrating for a young horse; there are enough glimpses of competence to suggest ability is there, but consistency remains elusive. Over six months have now passed since that win in April, which adds urgency to finding the right race and the right conditions to strike again.

Trainer Conor David Maxwell, based at Stamullen in County Meath, is working with limited ammunition this season — his yard has sent out just seven winners so far. Survivor's Code does show a clear preference for middle distances. At distances between 7 furlongs and a mile, the horse has won 1 of 6 races, which works out to a win rate of roughly 1 in every 3 tries at that trip — a sharp contrast to the 8% win rate overall. That's the angle worth exploring: find a race at the right distance, on the right ground, and this horse might remind people why it broke through in the first place.
