Supreme Dancer

The recent form makes for interesting reading. Two second-place finishes in the last six races suggest this is a horse capable of running well, but the pattern of finishing second rather than first is becoming something of a theme. An eighth and a seventh are tucked in there too, which means the performances are inconsistent — some days Supreme Dancer shows up, other days it does not.

The partnership with jockey Oisin Orr has been given a fair chance, with seven races together producing no wins. That is not necessarily damning — plenty of horses find their moment after a long wait — but it does suggest the combination has not yet unlocked whatever is needed to get Supreme Dancer into the winner's enclosure. The horse typically competes at Class 6, the entry level of British racing, which means it is already competing at the most accessible tier. Going winless from eight races at that level is the kind of record that raises honest questions about whether a win is coming.

Trainer Richard & Peter Fahey, based at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire, have sent out 23 winners this season, so this is a yard that clearly knows how to get horses winning. Supreme Dancer just has not been one of them yet. The yard will be well aware of what the horse needs to find, and the fact that it raced just one day ago suggests they are keeping it busy and looking for the right opportunity. Sometimes that persistence pays off. For now, Supreme Dancer remains one of racing's nearly horses — present, placed occasionally, but still waiting for its moment.
