What might be worth watching is the gap since that last run. Sun Path has been off the track for around three and a half months, which is a meaningful break for a young horse still learning the job. Whether that time away reflects a minor setback, a patient training plan, or simply waiting for the right opportunity, it's impossible to say — but returning horses can sometimes surprise, especially when they've had time to fill out and mature physically.

The yard sending Sun Path out is trained by Marcus Tregoning, a quietly respected handler who has put four winners on the board this season. That's a modest but respectable tally, and Tregoning has a reputation for placing horses carefully rather than running them for the sake of it. If he's decided Sun Path is worth another shot after this long break, there's at least some reason to think the team believes there's more to come.

For now, Sun Path is very much an unknown quantity — a young horse with two unimpressive runs and three months of questions hanging over the return. Sometimes that's exactly the profile of a horse about to click into gear. Sometimes it isn't.
