The sweet spot for Sujet is clearly a distance of around a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs. At those trips, it has won 2 of its 7 races — that is nearly 1 in 3, which is a sharp improvement on its overall figures and tells you that getting the distance right matters enormously with this horse. Both career wins have come at that range, the first at The Curragh in Ireland in late June 2025, and the second at Killarney in August 2025. Two Irish wins for a horse trained in North Yorkshire is a small detail worth pausing on — it suggests the team has been willing to travel to find the right opportunities, and that Sujet has delivered when asked to perform away from home.

The recent form, however, is harder to spin. Sujet has not won in its last six races, and the numbers — finishing 7th, 2nd, 10th, 15th, 11th, and 2nd in its most recent outings — show a horse that has come close once but has largely struggled to get into the argument. That 15th place in particular is a long way back. The last win came in August 2025, nearly 11 months ago now, and the question hanging over Sujet is whether another victory is coming or whether those Irish wins represent a high-water mark.

Trainer Declan Carroll, based in Malton in North Yorkshire, has had a productive season with 24 winners already on the board — a yard clearly in decent form. Sujet raced just one day ago, so this is an active campaign, and with the right distance and a bit of luck in running, there is a horse here that has proven it can win. Whether it finds that form again is the interesting question.
