Both of his wins have come on normal ground, where he's converted 2 from 10 races — that's a 20% win rate in those conditions, which tells you something useful. Put him on ground that's wet or baked hard and the numbers drop off sharply. He's also a horse who seems to appreciate a race run at a genuine pace from the front — his jockey after the Listowel win last June noted that a strongly run race probably suits him, and that he rides like he wants a longer trip, even if it's not certain he truly stays it. That's an interesting puzzle for his trainer to navigate.

Gavin Cromwell's yard in Navan has sent out 96 winners this season — a serious operation by any measure — and Cromwell clearly spotted something worth nurturing in Stuntman Steve early on. When the horse first arrived at the yard, Cromwell described him warmly as "a grand horse," even if his early form had been more notable for letters (the codes used to mark falls and refusals) than actual finishes. His debut win for the stable at Clonmel in November 2024 came after jockey Keith Donoghue reported that the final hurdle — the last obstacle before the line — was the winning of the race, the horse jumping boldly when it mattered most.

His most recent form figures show five finishes outside the places in his last six races, and he hasn't won since Listowel in June 2025 — over thirteen months ago now. He raced just yesterday, which means he's in the thick of things and clearly in good health. Whether another win is coming is harder to say, but for a horse with his profile, even finding the right race on normal ground with a good pace to race into could be enough to remind people what he's capable of.
