Strike Red

The most striking thing about Strike Red is his relationship with York. Britain's most celebrated flat track is where the best horses in the country turn up, and he has won there twice in two years — October 2022 and October 2024 — both times in a top race. That kind of repeated success at the same big venue is not a coincidence. Two wins from eight races at York gives him a 25% win rate there, which is exceptional for a horse operating at that level. He clearly loves the place.

Wet or muddy ground brings out the best in him too. On soft or heavy ground he has won 2 of just 6 races — that's 1 in every 3, or 33% — which is the sort of number that makes you sit up and take notice. When conditions turn testing, Strike Red becomes a different proposition entirely.

He is ridden most often by Billy Garritty, who knows him better than anyone — four wins from 26 races together, winning 15% of the time, or roughly 1 in every 6 rides. That is a meaningful partnership built over time. The pair are trained by Richard and Peter Fahey at Musley Bank in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out two winners this season.

Most encouragingly, Strike Red won just this week — at Leicester on 25 April 2026 — snapping back to form after a run of results that included finishes of eighth and two elevenths. His last six runs tell a boom-or-bust story: a win, a place, and then some difficult days. But a horse that wins a top race at York one year and comes back to win another two years later is not a spent force. At eight years old, with the right ground and the right track, he remains a genuine threat.
