Strike Red

What makes Strike Red genuinely interesting is his record at York. He has won two Class 2 races at that track, most recently on 12 October 2024 and before that two years earlier in October 2022. These are top-level victories, and on fast, dry ground at a big track he has shown he can handle serious opposition. Away from York, though, his Class 2 record tells a different story: just 2 wins from 36 races at that level elsewhere amounts to a 6% win rate, suggesting he may be right at the limit of his abilities in the highest company.

Strike Red's form has been patchy recently. In his last six races he has finished 7th, then 1st, then 2nd, 4th, 7th and 10th — a mixed bag that suggests he is still capable of winning but doing so less often. He won at Hamilton Park six weeks ago on 17 July 2026, so he remains an active force. Interestingly, ground conditions do not seem to handicap him: he has won 2 from 8 races on dry ground and 2 from 8 on wet ground, both at 25%, which is well above his career average and suggests he is adaptable.
