That one win came at Gowran Park in October 2022, and it remains the only time she has reached the winner's enclosure. Forty-four months have passed since then, and her last six runs — a fourth, an eighth, a sixth, a third, and two blanks — tell a familiar story of a horse who can find a piece of the prize money but rarely threatens to take it all. She raced just yesterday, so whatever form she carries, it is fresh.

Her best distance appears to be somewhere between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs, where she has run 11 times and recorded that sole career win — a 1 in 11 ratio at her preferred trip that at least gives her regular rider Robert Whearty something to work with. Whearty has partnered her 11 times in total for that same single victory, which reflects the broader pattern: plenty of involvement, modest reward.

She is trained by P Cluskey out of Balbriggan in County Dublin, a yard that has sent out two winners so far this season. It is a modest operation, and Stormy Jenn is very much in keeping with its profile — a horse who has been around, knows her job, and occasionally does enough to keep everyone interested. At nine years old and with 40 races behind her, she is not a horse anyone is waiting to unlock. But she keeps appearing at the track, keeps finding a placing here and there, and every so often — as Gowran Park once proved — surprises everyone, including possibly herself.
