Stilton made her debut a day ago and finished seventh in a field that clearly had her measure. The two-year-old, trained by
Hugo Palmer at Malpas in Cheshire, has plenty of time to develop, but that first outing gave no hint of what might come next. Palmer's yard has been in excellent form this season with 67 winners to their name, so there is clearly expertise on hand to help the colt improve, but right now he looks to have work to do. Racing young horses is as much about the experience they gain as the results they produce, and Stilton will have learned something from that run. What happens next will be far more telling than what happened first.
