Stepdance

The most obvious one is Tramore itself. That track clearly suits him. He's won two of his four races there—a 50 per cent win rate at a single course is genuinely impressive and the kind of pattern that catches the eye of anyone paying attention. It's his happy hunting ground, and it's where he recorded both of his wins. The second came just 13 months ago, so the form isn't impossibly stale. Stepdance also shows a clear preference for normal ground conditions, winning 2 of 9 races (roughly 22 per cent) when the turf is in standard order, compared to his overall win rate of 13 per cent. Distance-wise, he performs best over 1m3f to 1m4f, winning 1 of 4 races at that trip (25 per cent)—another corner of the sport where he's fractionally better than his average.

Henry De Bromhead's yard at Knockeen has had a strong season, sending out 110 winners, which tells you the trainer knows how to get horses ready. Stepdance's partnership with his regular rider Jack Kearney hasn't yielded a win from their six races together, though, which is worth noting. Still, there's enough in the record to suggest that if the yard can plot a return to Tramore on a day when the ground is kind and the distance suits, Stepdance could remind people why he's worth having around. He's not a star, but he's not finished yet either.
