Stenmark

That one win came at Southwell on 25 August 2025, and it remains the only time Stenmark has been first past the post. Southwell is an all-weather track in Nottinghamshire — racing on an artificial surface regardless of the weather — and it tends to suit horses with a reliable, consistent style rather than those who need everything to fall perfectly. Whether Stenmark can recreate that form there again is one of the more interesting questions around this horse.

The level at which Stenmark races tells its own story. Class 4 is a middle tier of British racing — not the glamour end, but no pushover either — and against that grade, Stenmark has yet to win from 8 attempts. Its sole victory came outside that band, which suggests this horse may be marginally better suited when the competition drops slightly. Recent form shows a mix of thirds and mid-pack finishes, with nothing in the last six races translating into a win. It raced just one day ago, so it is clearly an active and busy horse at this stage of its career.

At four years old, Stenmark is still at the stage where improvement is possible. Horses often take time to find their feet, and a horse that places regularly — as this one does — is not miles away. The gap between placing and winning is sometimes smaller than it looks from the outside, and a return to the right conditions at Southwell might be all it takes to remind everyone what this horse is capable of on its best day.
