This is the kind of pattern that catches trainers' eyes. Ralph Beckett, who trains Star Rose from Kimpton in Hampshire, has sent out 107 winners this season from a busy yard, so he knows how to get horses to the winning post. The fact that she continues to race Star Rose suggests she sees something worth developing.

The partnership with Hugh Bowman adds another layer of interest. Bowman is an accomplished jockey, and while he has ridden Star Rose in just five races, he has won once aboard the horse — a 20 per cent win rate that outperforms the horse's overall record. Sometimes a particular jockey-horse combination clicks in a way that individual records do not capture. Star Rose's recent form shows a second place just two races ago, which indicates the horse is competitive and not far away from winning again. After ten months without a victory, a return to that mile-and-a-quarter range with Bowman in the saddle could be exactly what is needed to unlock another win.
