Star Cast

The recent run of results tells its own story. Four wins from the last six races is a remarkable sequence at any level, and Star Cast has managed it while racing regularly enough that it cannot be dismissed as a fluke. She was last seen winning at Ayr just this week, and with a race only yesterday, the yard is clearly not shy about keeping her busy while the confidence is high.

Trainer Gemma Tutty, based in Osmotherley in North Yorkshire, has sent out 20 winners this season and clearly knows what she has here. Star Cast came to Tutty from the yard of Mark Prescott, one of the sport's great precision trainers, and she is bred from a dam who ran in the better races — which hints that there may be more to find yet. Tutty identified early on that Star Cast would want a mile and a half and wet ground, and that patience has paid off handsomely.

The numbers bear out that judgement precisely. On wet or muddy ground, she wins 2 from 5 — 40%. Over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, she has won 5 of 12 races — a 42% win rate that is genuinely elite at this level. Newcastle is her spiritual home: 3 wins from 12 visits there, which might not sound extraordinary until you consider that most horses go a lifetime without finding a track they truly master. She opened her account at Newcastle in January 2026 and keeps returning.

The one caveat worth noting is her record in Class 5 races, which is the level she most often competes at — zero wins from eight attempts there. All six of her wins have come in other circumstances, which suggests she performs better when conditions play to her strengths than when class alone defines the race. That is not a weakness so much as a reminder that Star Cast is a horse you back when everything lines up: wet ground, a mile and a half, and ideally a trip to Newcastle. When those boxes are ticked, she is as reliable as anything running right now.
