Both of those wins tell an interesting story about where this five-year-old is at its best. The first came at Southwell in March 2025, and the second followed at Musselburgh in April — meaning Sportingsilvermine found the winner's enclosure twice in the space of six weeks, which looked at the time like a horse coming into form. Since then, nothing. The last six races have read 3-3-2-2-7-12 in reverse order, which means after a couple of solid placed efforts, the performances have started to tail off at the back end of that sequence.

The distance range of a mile and six furlongs to two miles suits it best, where it has won 1 from 8 races — 12% of the time, or roughly 1 in every 8 races at that trip. That is meaningfully better than its overall record and suggests stamina is this horse's friend. At Class 4 level — a solid mid-tier contest rather than anything elite — it has won 1 from 5 races, a 20% win rate that amounts to 1 in every 5 attempts, which is perfectly respectable.

The one puzzle worth noting is the partnership with jockey J M Sheridan. Together they have raced eight times without a win, which is the entirety of Sheridan's time on board. That does not mean the combination cannot work, but it is a trend worth watching. James Owen's yard, meanwhile, is clearly operating well — 201 winners sent out this season is a productive operation by any measure, so the infrastructure around Sportingsilvermine is strong.

Raced just yesterday and still active, this is a horse that keeps turning up. The career earnings and level suggest it belongs at the level it is competing at, and with the right trip and conditions, it has shown it can win. Whether it can find a third win before the season is out will depend on whether it can rediscover the form that made March and April 2025 look so promising.
