Spit Spot has won twice from six visits there — that is 1 in every 3 races at the same venue, which is a remarkable hit rate for any horse at any level. Compare that to its overall career record and you can see immediately that Chelmsford brings something out in this horse that not every track manages to. Its very first career win came there in September 2022, so perhaps there is something about the place that suits it right down to the ground.

Normal conditions — a standard, well-maintained surface — also seem to bring out the best in Spit Spot. Two wins from seven races on good ground works out at roughly 1 in every 3-and-a-half races, which is significantly better than its overall average. Wet or firm ground, by contrast, has never produced a win. That is the kind of detail that matters.

The honest caveat is that Spit Spot has not won in six races, with the last success coming at Perth in October 2025 — nine months ago now. The recent form figures of finishes outside the places tell the same story. But this horse raced just yesterday and is clearly still in training, still being pointed at races. Whether another win is coming is an open question, but the Chelmsford record alone makes Spit Spot worth keeping an eye on.
