Since then, however, there has been silence — eight months without another win, though the recent run of form shows Spinola Bay is still competitive and still racing regularly. The horse was out just a day ago, which confirms it remains an active, working member of Gordon Elliott's yard at Longwood in County Meath. Elliott's operation sent out 210 winners this season, so Spinola Bay is part of a serious, high-volume training setup.

What makes Spinola Bay interesting is not a dominant record but the shape of it.
