Spellacy's Cross

Both of those wins have come at the same track: Clonmel. That might sound like a coincidence, but when you look closer, Clonmel is where this horse has raced six times and won twice — that is 1 win from every 3 races there, compared to zero wins from the other 22 races at every other course combined. Some horses simply suit a particular track, whether it is the shape of the bends, the way the ground rides, or the distance. Whatever the reason, Clonmel seems to unlock something in Spellacy's Cross that nowhere else does.

The two Clonmel wins arrived close together — 2 October and 23 October 2025 — suggesting the horse was in the form of its life during that spell. Since then, eight months have passed without a victory, and the last six runs have not produced a win. The most recent form figures of a fourth and a third, though, show the horse is still competing and finishing in the places, which means it has not fallen away entirely. Racing 1 day ago, it is clearly still an active part of the Barcoe yard, which has sent out 7 winners this season.

Regular jockey Kieran Callaghan has been in the saddle for 11 of those 28 races without a win between them, which is a tough record to look past. But if the entries bring Spellacy's Cross back to Clonmel, that changes the picture considerably. This is a horse that has shown, in black and white, that it can win there — and on a track it clearly knows well, with its trainer in decent form, the losing run may not last forever.
