Trained by Charles Hills out of Lambourn in Berkshire, Special Gold is in capable hands. Hills has sent out 31 winners already this season, which tells you this is a yard that knows how to get horses ready to perform. Lambourn is one of the most famous training centres in Britain, a village where racehorses outnumber people and the gallops have produced champions for generations. Being based there is no accident — it attracts serious trainers and serious horses.
With only one run to judge by, there is not much of a form book to dig into yet. But finishing placed on debut is a decent starting point — it means Special Gold was competitive straight away rather than needing several races just to find its feet. The next run will tell us a lot more.
