This pattern suggests that when everything aligns — Doyle in the saddle, firm ground, a Class 3 contest — Spartan Arrow becomes a genuine threat. His first win came at Brighton on 2 May 2023, and his spell at Archie Watson's Upper Lambourn yard (which has produced 62 winners this season alone) ought to suit a horse of his profile.

The real question is whether Spartan Arrow's 12-month drought represents a temporary dip or a permanent decline. Recent form reads 9-7-13-7-7-13 — a worrying sequence of mid-field and lower finishes. Yet he raced just a day ago, which proves the yard still believe there is a race to be won. If Doyle can be booked, conditions favour normal ground, and he drops into a familiar Class 3 contest, there may be a win left in this horse. For now, though, Spartan Arrow is a name to watch rather than back with conviction.
