Spartan
Spartan made a winning debut at Kempton Park just this week, claiming victory in a two-year-old race on 5 October. The horse, trained by the Gosden yard at Newmarket, is unbeaten after one outing — a perfect record that marks the kind of start many young racehorses never manage. John and Thady Gosden have built one of Britain's most successful operations, and they've already sent out 140 winners this season alone, so there's good reason to think they know what they're doing with a promising youngster. Still, it's early days: one race tells you a horse can win, but little else. Spartan will need to prove it again before anyone can seriously claim it's destined for bigger things. Kempton is a fair test, though, and the fact that the Gosdens have already run the horse competitively suggests they see something worth developing.
