Sovereign Dawn

Trained by Michael Keady out of Newmarket, the sport's most famous training centre in Suffolk, Sovereign Dawn is part of a yard that has hit the ground running this season with 16 winners already. That kind of form from a trainer matters — it tells you the horses are fit, well-prepared, and turning up ready to race. For a young horse still working out what racing is all about, being surrounded by that kind of environment is no small thing.

At this stage, the record of no wins from two races means very little. Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers — some burst out of the gate and win first time, others take a few runs to understand what is being asked of them. The jump from tenth to third in consecutive races is actually the more telling number here. That is not a horse going sideways — that is a horse improving.
