Trained by Alan McIntyre out of Clifden, Kilkenny, Sonny Corleone is part of a yard that has sent out three winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse ready to perform. The question is when that form will rub off on this one. Two consecutive fourth-place finishes suggest he is at least competitive enough to be in the mix, even if he hasn't been able to force his way into the prize money — and that tenth-place run is the kind of result every yard wants to move past quickly.

At three years old, there is time on his side. Horses at this age are still learning their trade, and a yard with winners on the board this season will be working out where and when to find him the right opportunity. The next run will be worth watching.
