That kind of form is the mark of a horse operating at a level where the competition is consistent and margins are fine. At Class 4 — a solid, mid-tier level of racing — Son Of Man has won 1 from 10 races, or 10% of the time, which is actually a respectable return at that grade.

The partnership with regular jockey Paddy Bradley has not yet produced a win from eight races together, which is the one obvious puzzle in the record. It is not necessarily a cause for alarm — plenty of good partnerships take time to click, and Bradley keeps getting the ride, which suggests the team still believes in the combination. Jim Boyle, who trains Son Of Man from his yard in Epsom, Surrey, has had 25 winners already this season, so there is clearly no shortage of form coming out of that operation. When Boyle sends a horse out, it tends to be ready to run.

The first career win came at Great Yarmouth in September 2023, and it took until April 2026 for the second to arrive — a long wait by any measure, but the horse has hardly been idle in between, and the placed finishes have piled up steadily. Son Of Man is the kind of horse that demands patience rather than excitement, but with a win banked recently and yesterday's race already under its belt, there is every reason to think it is in a purple patch right now.
