Somkiyr

The recent form figures of 6-8-8-8-4-6 tell a fairly consistent story — mid-field at best, towards the back of the field more often than not. That fourth-place finish stands out as a rare glimpse of something better, but it remains the solitary bright spot in an otherwise difficult run. Four of those ten races have come at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle tier of British racing — not the very top, but not the easiest grade either — and Somkiyr has yet to win at that level from four attempts.

The horse is trained by Andy Irvine, whose yard in Ashurstwood, East Sussex has sent out four winners this season, so the team clearly knows how to get a horse into the winner's enclosure. The challenge now is finding the conditions and the race that finally unlock something in Somkiyr — because at five years old, there is still time, but the clock is ticking.
