The standout moment came at Wetherby on Boxing Day 2024, when Some Scope landed a Class 1 race — one of the very best races you can win in Britain. That alone tells you this horse can compete at the highest level when conditions align. He broke his duck at Haydock Park back in April 2023, and has since developed into a horse his trainer Richard Hobson — based at Little Rissington in Gloucestershire and having a productive season with 9 winners sent out — clearly knows how to place well.

Two things stand out about Some Scope's profile. First, he is a genuine Doncaster specialist. Two wins from four races at the track is a remarkable hit rate — winning half your races anywhere takes some doing, and Doncaster seems to bring out something extra in him. His most recent win came there on 29 December 2025, just three months ago. Second, he has a real preference for slightly soft, wet ground, winning 3 of 8 races — more than 1 in 3 — in those conditions. On fast, dry ground, the record drops away sharply. This is a horse that wants some give underfoot.

The one puzzle in his profile is his record at Class 2 level — the second tier of British racing. He has run there seven times without winning. Yet he has beaten Class 1 fields. That kind of quirk keeps racing interesting, and it is the sort of thing his regular partner Gavin Sheehan will know well. Sheehan has ridden Some Scope nine times and won on him three times, a win rate of 33% — or roughly 1 in 3 — which is an excellent partnership by any measure.

He raced just eight days ago and remains active. With soft ground on the forecast and Doncaster on the calendar, Some Scope is exactly the kind of horse worth keeping an eye on.
