Trained by J.S. Bolger at his yard in Coolcullen, Co Carlow, Solas Na Gealai is in experienced hands. Bolger is one of Irish racing's most respected figures, and with eight winners already on the board this season, the operation is clearly in decent form. That context matters — when a yard is firing, the horses around it tend to benefit from sharper preparation and better morale. A seventh-place finish is nobody's idea of a breakthrough, but having raced just yesterday, this is a horse whose story is still being written.
Two races is a very small sample. Plenty of horses take time to figure out what's being asked of them, and at three, there is still room for improvement as the horse fills out and settles into a routine. Whether Solas Na Gealai can turn those two sevenths into something more promising is the question — but with a capable yard behind it and youth on its side, it would be premature to write it off just yet.
