Both of those wins came at Doncaster, and both came on normal ground conditions. That combination — Doncaster, decent ground — appears to unlock something in him. In four races at that track he has won twice, which is a 50% record, and it's the kind of stat that makes you sit up. Most horses find one course suits them slightly better than others. For Snowy Evening, Doncaster isn't just a preference — it looks close to a requirement. His first win there came in December 2023, and he followed it up just seven weeks later in January 2024. Since then, though, it has been 28 months without a win, and recent form — two fallers or non-completions sandwiched around a fifth and a fourth — suggests he has been going through a rougher patch.

What makes the story richer is the trainer commentary. Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero, who have sent out 43 winners from their Cheshire yard this season, have clearly had to puzzle this horse out. At one point he was reportedly refusing to jump hurdles cleanly — "ignorant," in jockey Henry Brooke's words — smashing through them rather than arcing over them. Switching him to fences appears to have been the turning point. It was Guerriero who pushed for a drop in trip at Doncaster and added cheekpieces, and Brooke described that January 2024 win as the horse's best round of jumping in a long time. That kind of specific, deliberate management is what separates horses who find their level from those who drift.

Brooke has been the regular partner, riding him in 7 of his 15 races and winning once together — the same 1-in-7 ratio as his overall record. Snowy Evening races mostly at Class 4 level, which is solid mid-tier racing without being the top end of the sport. He raced just yesterday, so whatever comes next is close. The trainer's belief, expressed even before his breakthrough wins, was that once this horse got rolling, he would keep improving. The clock is ticking on that prediction — but the Doncaster record suggests there may yet be one more chapter in him.
