Sir Patchy

The horse runs in lower-tier races, the kind where you might think his chances would improve. But in seven attempts at that level, he has yet to win. Pat Phelan, his trainer at Epsom, has had eight winners this season from his yard, so Sir Patchy is not the trainer's only runner finding the winner's enclosure. That tells you something: the horse is racing in an appropriate grade, alongside other animals of similar ability, and simply has not had it in him to win. His two places suggest he can run respectably on his day—he has got into the frame—but turning that into a win has not happened. With a race under his belt in the last 24 hours and no win since his first race, the outlook remains unchanged.
