This kind of tactical fit between rider and horse matters enormously; Dawes clearly understands how to get the best from Silver State, and that's a valuable edge. The first career win came at Wolverhampton in February 2026, and the most recent victory was at Doncaster three months ago, suggesting the horse has found its rhythm in the spring and early summer months.

What's slightly puzzling is Silver State's record in the highest company. At Class 5 level—the sort of competitive, better-quality races where a genuinely progressive horse should start to dominate—the record is blank: zero wins from four attempts. This suggests Silver State may have a ceiling, or at least needs to prove it can compete reliably at that grade. For now, it seems most comfortable in slightly easier races, where it has built its wins and places.

Jack Channon's West Ilsley yard has been prolific this season with 46 winners, so Silver State is surrounded by a team in form and knows how to find winners. The horse was active as recently as yesterday, so momentum and freshness are on its side.
