The recent form makes for difficult reading. Looking at the last six races in order from most recent, the finishing positions read 8, 6, 11, 9, and 8, with a pulled-up run mixed in. There is no obvious improvement in the numbers, and a finish of 11th suggests at least one outing where things went quite badly wrong. For context, finishing eighth or ninth in a typical field means Silver Salute is beating some horses home — but not many. Racing just yesterday, the horse remains active, so the yard are clearly not giving up.
What is perhaps most interesting here is the training setup. Ian Patrick Donoghue, based at Clonalvy in County Meath, has sent out 29 winners this season — that is a yard in decent form, capable of getting horses ready to win. Silver Salute simply hasn't been able to take advantage of that. Whether the right race is still out there waiting, only time will tell.
