Silver Ghost

Those two wins arrived in quick succession and at proper venues. The first came at Newmarket on 3 May 2025 — one of the most famous and demanding tracks in Britain, where the wide, open straights sort out the genuine horses from the pretenders. Then, just three weeks later, Silver Ghost stepped up and won a Class 2 race at Goodwood, which is one of the top levels of competition in Britain. Two wins in three weeks, at two of the most respected courses in the country — that's not a fluke, that's a horse hitting form.

The trouble is, that was the last time Silver Ghost saw the winner's enclosure. Looking at the last six races — 10th, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 6th, 10th reading from most recent back — the picture is one of a horse that briefly threatened to recapture things (that second and third place are encouraging) but has drifted away again. The most recent run, just yesterday, ended in a 10th-place finish.

What Silver Ghost clearly needs is the right ground. On normal conditions it has won 2 of its 7 races — that's a 29% win rate, which is genuinely strong. Compare that to the overall record of 2 wins from 15 races, and the message is clear: get this horse on a decent surface and the chance of a win rises sharply. Emma Lavelle's yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 44 winners, so the platform is there.

Silver Ghost is a horse that has already shown it belongs at a high level — winning a top-tier race at Goodwood at four years old is a real achievement. Whether it can rediscover that May 2025 spark is the question worth watching.
