Silver Ghost

Both wins came in a remarkable burst over three weeks in May 2025. Silver Ghost landed its maiden victory at Newmarket on 3 May, then came back to win a Class 2 race at Goodwood just three weeks later on 24 May. Since that high-water mark, though, it has been a long drought. The horse hasn't won in the 16 months since, managing only 2-3-10-15-5-16 in its last six outings—numbers that show it is still competitive enough to pick up some placings but struggles to find the winner's enclosure when it matters. Last raced just a day ago, Silver Ghost is actively campaigned but plainly going through a barren spell.

The pattern suggests that Silver Ghost performs best on normal ground, where it has won two of seven races (a 29% win rate), considerably better than its overall record. At the highest level—Class 2 races—it has managed just 1 win from 7 attempts (14%), which reflects the reality that it belongs in that company but cannot yet do it often enough to make a real mark. Emma Lavelle's Ogbourne Maizey yard continues to produce winners at a brisk rate this season with 44 already on the board, but Silver Ghost remains very much a work in progress: a horse with a touch of class but, at present, more promise than delivery.
