That win came at Southwell back in December, and it remains the defining moment of her career so far. Seven months is a long time between victories, and her more recent runs — finishing sixth and then fourteenth — suggest she has had some mixed form since that breakthrough. The second-place finish somewhere in between keeps her profile interesting, though, and tells you she has not completely lost her way.

She is trained by Tom Clover, who operates out of Newmarket in Suffolk — one of the traditional heartlands of British racing, a town where the sport is essentially the local industry. Clover's yard has sent out 23 winners this season, which points to a stable in decent nick and capable of producing results. Having a horse in form hands matters, and Silenciosa is at least in a place where the know-how exists to get the best out of her. With only four races on the clock, there is still plenty of room for the story to develop.
