The recent form is genuinely promising. Shimmering Sun won at Dundalk this week, just one day ago, and before that finished second in its previous race. Three weeks earlier it had a poor outing, finishing 14th, but rather than falling apart after that it bounced back with a second-place finish and then the Dundalk win. For a young horse, that resilience — the ability to shake off a bad day and get right back in the mix — is the kind of thing trainers look for. The horse's first win came at Salisbury back in May, so it has now won twice in the space of four months.

Harry Eustace's Newmarket yard has had a strong season, sending out 24 winners, and Shimmering Sun appears to be part of that momentum. With a win rate of 1 in every 3 races and four placings from just six starts, this is a horse that runs well most of the time. It is still early in its career, and at two years old there is a long way to go, but the recent Dundalk victory — achieved just yesterday — suggests Eustace has found a suitable level for it and the horse is settling into a pattern of competitive racing.
