In eight races together, Slattery and Shahada Ace have combined for that one victory — a 12% win rate, or roughly 1 in 8 — which is a perfectly respectable partnership at this level, even if there is clearly more to come.

What's most interesting right now is the trajectory. The recent form reads as a run of ten, then a blank, then a win, then a fourth and a third — so Shahada Ace had been knocking on the door before that Tipperary success arrived. The horse raced again just yesterday, which means the yard are keeping it busy and believing there is more to be squeezed out of this season. Whether Shahada Ace can build on that August win and turn itself from an occasional threat into something more consistent is the question worth watching. At four years old, there is still time to find the answer.
