Shaatir

The long layoff is notable, but Shaatir comes back to a yard in excellent shape. Trainer Archie Watson, based at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has sent out 64 winners this season and is one of the most consistent operations in British racing. That kind of form suggests Shaatir will have had proper preparation for his return. His recent record reads a placed effort, then a win, then a placed effort again — solid, unremarkable progress for a young horse still learning his trade. With a third of his races ending in the winner's enclosure, he has shown enough to suggest he belongs at this level, though he remains unproven over a longer sample of races. The return from his long absence will tell us whether that early promise has developed while he has been away.
