Set The Tone

The recent form tells an interesting story. In the last six races, Set The Tone has finished second twice and third once, which suggests the horse is running into some form. A second two races ago, another second just before that, and a third five races back—those are the kinds of results that keep a horse in training and give the yard reason to believe another win is within reach. Racing just yesterday shows this horse is actively campaigned and trusted by David M O'Brien's Piltown yard to keep competing.

Sean Flanagan has been the regular pilot, riding Set The Tone ten times without a win, but horses sometimes need a different rider to unlock their potential. That said, the partnership has stuck together through the lean times, which speaks to a degree of faith in the horse's ability. O'Brien's yard hasn't set the world on fire this season—one winner so far—but Set The Tone's recent placings suggest it is genuinely competitive at its level. Wexford, where the horse won, appears to suit it, and there's every reason to think another victory could come sooner rather than later.
