Service Minimum

The partnership with Harry Skelton — Dan's brother — has been particularly fruitful. In eight races together, Harry has steered Service Minimum to all four of its career wins, a remarkable 50% win rate that tells you this combination works. When these two click, things tend to go right. It is the kind of sibling team that feels almost unfair from the outside.

What is also telling is how the horse performs on normal ground — not too wet, not baked hard, just standard racing conditions. On that surface, Service Minimum has won 4 of 8 races, again that striking 50% return. Many horses have preferences that their teams manage carefully, and this one is no different. Keep the ground right, and the results follow.

Dan Skelton's operation is one of the most productive in British jump racing right now — 194 winners sent out this season alone is a staggering number, roughly two winners somewhere in the country every three or four days. Service Minimum is one of dozens of horses in that machine, but it has clearly earned its place in the string. Skelton noted back in late 2024 that the horse was always going to be a jumper, something to build toward rather than a ready-made sprinter — and that patience appears to be paying off. The first career win came at Ludlow in May 2025, and the progress since then has been real and measurable.

The recent form shows a seventh-place finish just yesterday, sandwiched around two wins and mixed results — so it is not flawless, and Class 4 competition (a solid mid-tier level) can be unpredictable. But a horse with a 1-in-3 career record, a red-hot partnership with its regular jockey, and a trainer firing winners at an extraordinary rate this season is worth keeping an eye on. Service Minimum does not do anything flashy. It just keeps showing up and winning at a rate that adds up.
