Trained by Martin Dunne at his Newmarket yard, Sequential is operating at Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing, where horses are competitive but not yet threatening the top end of the sport. Dunne's operation has been in decent form this season, sending out 20 winners, so the infrastructure and know-how are there. The question is simply whether Sequential can find the improvement needed to get its head in front.
At three years old, there is no need to press the panic button. Some horses take time to mature, to learn how to race, and to find their feet. Racing just one day ago, Sequential is clearly an active project, and the team at Newmarket will be hoping that the penny drops sooner rather than later. But until that first win arrives, it remains a horse with more questions than answers.
