Sense The Tension

The recent record makes for tough reading. In its last six races, the best finishes have been a pair of sixth places, with blanks either side and a seventh thrown in for good measure. There is no upward curve to point to, no sign of a horse finding its feet or building toward something. Sense The Tension raced just yesterday, so it is clearly still out there competing, but the results have not shifted.

Mr E T Mellerick has been the regular partner, riding the horse in five of its seven races together, and the pair are yet to trouble the scorer — zero wins from five attempts. That is not necessarily a criticism of either horse or rider, but it does mean there is no combination of factors yet that has unlocked anything special. Sometimes a horse simply finds its level, and at 10 years old, the window for a breakthrough is narrowing. Whether that first win ever comes is the open question, but Sense The Tension, to its credit, is still turning up.
