Both wins have come at big, prestigious tracks. The first arrived at York in July 2025, one of the most celebrated venues in British racing, and the second at Newmarket in September 2025 — a course that serious racing people regard as a true test of quality. Winning once at either of those places would be something to shout about. Winning at both suggests Secret Beach is a horse that saves its best for the grandest stages, even if it does not always look like it in between.

The distance record is worth noting too. Over a mile and six furlongs to two miles — the longer end of the spectrum, where stamina and patience matter as much as raw speed — Secret Beach has won 1 race from 5, a rate of 20%, or roughly 1 in every 5. That is double its overall win rate and a clear signal that getting the trip right makes a real difference.

What is harder to ignore is the current form. The last six runs read 4-7-5-9-8-1, which means one win surrounded by a stretch of performances ranging from forgettable to frustrating. In its most common grade of competition — Class 5, which sits towards the lower end of the racing ladder — Secret Beach has won exactly none of its 8 attempts. Zero from eight. That is a curious quirk: a horse that cannot seem to win at a level it is regularly pitched into, yet has found a way to win at tracks that attract far better company.

Donald McCain's yard in Cheshire has been in excellent form this season, sending out 55 winners, so the team around Secret Beach clearly knows how to get horses ready to win. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, something is evidently being tried. Whether Secret Beach can build on that Newmarket win or remains a horse of brilliant moments and quiet gaps in between is the question that makes watching it genuinely worthwhile.
