Trained by Hayley Burton out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — Sea Of Sardinia is at least in capable hands. Burton's yard has sent out 7 winners already this season, which shows there's plenty of ability in the stable. The question is when Sea Of Sardinia starts to tap into some of that form.

Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers learning what racing is all about, and it's genuinely common for them to need several outings before things click. Having raced as recently as yesterday, this is a horse very much in the thick of its education. Whether a change of conditions, a different distance, or simply a bit more experience is the missing ingredient remains to be seen — but the story is far from written.
