Scarlett's Spell is a two-year-old in the early stages of her racing career, having made her debut just a day ago. She finished eighth in that first outing, which is hardly unusual for a young horse stepping onto the track for the first time.
Ed Dunlop, her trainer at Newmarket, has plenty of experience bringing on juveniles — his yard has already sent out 39 winners this season — so there is every reason to think she will improve significantly as she gets more racing under her belt and learns what it takes to compete.
