Scarlet Moon

For much of its career, Scarlet Moon thrived at Class 4 level, winning 3 of 12 races there (a 25% win rate), a decent return that speaks to a horse comfortable mixing it with mid-tier company. That last victory, at Warwick on 4 November 2025, felt like the kind of win that might have promised more to come. Instead, the horse has now gone 10 months without adding to its tally. In its last six races, Scarlet Moon has run up places—mostly two or three finishes—but that crucial final furlong has eluded it. It raced just a day ago, which shows it is still in work and being campaigned, but the form book offers no easy answers about what has gone wrong.

Trainer Archie Watson, based at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has been sending out winners at a steady clip this season with 62 victories already to his name. His yard clearly knows how to find races for its horses. Ben Poste, Scarlet Moon's most frequent partner, has ridden it 8 times for just the one victory, a modest return that hints neither horse nor rider has quite found their rhythm together. For now, Scarlet Moon remains a horse with form to build on, waiting for that breakthrough moment that could remind everyone—and perhaps itself—what it is capable of.
