What makes the picture slightly more complicated is the yard surrounding it. Jim Goldie's operation has sent out 88 winners this season alone, which tells you this is a trainer who knows how to get horses winning. That Saxon Gem hasn't managed it yet is not for lack of professional support. The most recent run came just yesterday, so this is very much a horse still in active campaign, and Goldie clearly sees something worth persisting with — trainers with 88 winners on the board don't run horses out of habit.

The recent form line of 11-4-6-5-6-7 does at least show one flicker of promise: that fourth-place finish sits in a sequence otherwise full of mid-field and rear efforts. Whether that represents a genuine step forward or just a smaller field on a better day is hard to say. For now, Saxon Gem remains a horse searching for its moment — young enough that patience is still reasonable, but with work to do before it justifies any serious expectations.
